Top Bodybuilding Cardio – Burn Fat While Building Muscle


Bodybuilding cardio is a subject not very discussed in the muscle building arena. I believe it is because a lot of people see cardio as something as a fitness thing that has nothing to do with bodybuilding at all.

But bodybuilding cardio has a lot of benefits and can be done in a lot of ways. But there are several things you need to know about bodybuilding cardio to really reap the benefits of it.

Bodybuilding Cardio – The Right Way

Muscle building cardio does not mean that you go all crazy on the treadmill every single time you are in the gym, as that will not do you any good when the focus is to build muscles. What cardio does is that it burns calories and if our goal is to build muscle and gain more weight, then we want cardio.

This is one of the reason bodybuilding cardio is confusing for a lot of people. But we want to do bodybuilding cardio in a way that will not make you lose muscles, rather fat, as bodybuilding cardio has lot of benefits:

The way we want to approach bodybuilding cardio is through a concept called HIT cardio. What this entails is that you have some high intervals where you go all out in your cardio exercises.

So let’s say you are on exercise bike. You warm up for 5 minutes in a slow pace and then you give it your all for 20 seconds and go slow pace for 40 seconds. You repeat this 10-15 times and have a cool down of 5 minutes.

When you get stronger in your bodybuilding cardio workouts, you can even go for a longer high pace interval and decrease your slow pace time.

The benefit of doing bodybuilding cardio through the HIT concept is that it increases your metabolism for a long time and that will help you burn fat, while you build muscle through weight lifting. You should do bodybuilding cardio about 3 times a week.

Bodybuilding Cardio – Routines

There are a lot of ways you can do muscle building cardio and it is a good idea to include them all, to change it up a bit.

- Treadmill machine. This is a great way to force yourself to go all in.
- Stair Master
- Run Outdoors
- Exercise Bike
- Step Machine
