How To Control Blood Sugar Level Naturally To Stay Healthy?

The term blood sugar signifies the amount of glucose or sugar present in the human or animal blood. There are certain parameters under which the level of sugar in human blood is considered normal or safe. The level of sugar in the blood is maintained by the body mechanism itself. But under certain circumstances, the level becomes too high which gives rise to various serious complications and this body state is referred as diabetic. The glucose or sugar being the primary source of energy for the cells of the body is essential to be there in the blood stream. The optimum level of sugar in the blood during fasting that is, in the morning without taking any food should range between 70 and 100 milligrams per deciliter (mg/dL) while in case of those not fasting or after having taken food the level should be less than 125 mg/dL. These figures for an existing diabetic are between 70 and 130; and 180 mg/dL respectively.

A person has to maintain these levels of sugar in the blood to stay healthy. The glucose is produced on the breaking up of the foods we take which provides energy to the body cells in conjunction with insulin. The insulin secreted by the pancreas control and maintains the level of sugar in the blood. The excess of sugar in the blood leads to increased secretion of insulin by the pancreas, but in course of time, the overworked pancreas slows down the insulin secretion or even stops it altogether. This is the condition when one has to resort to medications to control the level of sugar in the body.

But the level of sugar in the blood can be controlled and maintained in a natural way without having to go for medications. The obesity is an important factor influencing the blood sugar level in the body, and one can very much impact it favorably by reducing his body weight. The two pronged approach to control blood sugar refers to healthy diet and regulated life style. Some foods lead to increased production of glucose in the body that are to be avoided while a few others that favor secretion of insulin and consumption of sugar present in the blood are to be in the diet.

Some of the foods to be avoided are potatoes, corns, eggplants and other starch rich items. A few others that are fiber rich like beans of all types, whole grains and seasonal fruits in limited quantities help maintain sugar level in the blood. The fiber rich diets slow down the production of glucose and carbohydrates which helps maintain level of blood sugar in the body. The meals could be small and taken four-five times a day. The other option which must combine with the dietary precautions is to have a regulated and healthy life style comprising light exercises and walking on a regular basis. In both pre-diabetic and diabetic conditions; the dietary control as well as active lifestyle help maintain blood sugar level naturally.
