A Texas Lottery Tale: Steve Nash And Rick Nash

Dallas Mavericks

Dallas and Mark Cuban are probably still basking in the glow of their recent NBA Championship title but wouldn’t it be great if Dirk and Steve Nash could re-unite as Mavs for the start of the 2012 season? Now this would be an nba deal worthy of the ‘Big in Texas’ label!

I don’t know if either Cuban or Nash could ever make this happen but why not replace Jason Kidd with a younger all-star point guard - albeit only one year younger - in Nash, and give the two-time NBA MVP a real shot at a championship many feel he deserves?

Although Nash has repeated his ‘loyalty to Phoenix’ mantra over these past many months, not many would begrudge the all-world point guard a bounce to a contender given his advancing age. Yes, Nash keeps himself in phenomenal physical shape but father time winds down the clock on every mortal being, even a favourite Sun, er, that’s Son.

The Mavs wouldn’t be financially burdened if they acquire Nash and jettison Kidd since both players make very close to the same amount. Kidd makes about ten million per season while Nash makes about eleven per.

I can see it now, “Mavs win consecutive NBA Titles led by co-MVPs Nash and Nowitzki”!

Dallas Stars

NHL rumors aren’t as exciting as mlb rumors but this shouldn’t detract from the speculation that is likely to come this summer for one of hockey’s biggest stars, Rick Nash. The rugged Columbus Blue Jacket right winger is rumored to be on the move. Why not to the Dallas Stars?

The Dallas Stars have had a rich history in the NHL but recent years have produced mediocre seasons and plummeting attendance. This despite Texas having one of the U.S.’s best grassroots and youth hockey development systems.

Nash is only 27 years old, is big, and can score, something the Stars are dearly missing. Nash has zero playoff wins and despite his not so convincing responses of ‘loyalty to Columbus’ when questioned about his possible departure from Columbus, like his NBA namesake Steve, many feel he deserves a better fate than to continue to founder in Ohio.

Recruiting Nash to the Stars would not be difficult. The Stars are not divisional rivals and Dallas offers an appealing environment for a young and wealthy athlete. Depending on the new divisional alignment, the Blue Jackets would be less concerned about trading Nash to a Western division foe and facing him down the road too many times.

Even though Nash has a No Movement Clause, it appears that he is at least right now, listening to the trade rumors despite holding his hockey cards very close to the chest.

So come on Dallas, this summer, make a splash, with a Nash, or Two!
