Find A Job In Hawaii - Know The Facts
Before heading to the sand and surf of Hawaii in search of that elusive lay on the beach lifestyle many of us dream about. Here are a few things to know about the Islands, before booking your ticket!
From the Department of Business, Economic Development and Tourism, Hawaii’s economy is expected to continue positive growth for the next few years. However, as is the case for most every State, the future of Hawaii’s economic health is very much dependent on overall U.S. economic outlook.
A large component of Hawaii’s economic well-being continues to be inextricably linked to not only tourist visits, but also the health of Japan’s economy as well.
In 2010, Japan’s total trade dollars with the U.S. was approximately 185 billion. This placed the U.S. second to only China as Japan’s primary trade partner. As Japan’s economy goes, so goes the U.S.’s, and Hawaii’s.
From number of visits, to length of visitor stays, to visitor expenditures, a previous upward swing in growth from 2011 to 2012 will experience a downward drop in all three categories for 2013, partly due to continuing economic woes in both the mainland U.S. as well as in Japan.
The sneezing in the U.S. and Japan is continuing to give Hawaii a bit of a cold.
Wage and salary job projections are forecasted to increase for 2012 and 2013 but not by as much as previously thought. Honolulu’s Consumer Price Index is also to increase but by less than previously projected.
Looking ahead to the next couple of years, Hawaii is expected to see increases in visitor arrivals as well as expenditures. Job growth and real personal income is also expected to grow through 2015.
Here’s a quick look at some projection numbers of note.
Visitor arrivals (thousands) for 2013, 7,778 and for 2014, 7,946. Visitor days (thousands) for 2013, 73,750 and for 2014, 75,386. Visitor expenditures (millions) for 2013, $14,187 and for 2014, $14,797.
I live a stone’s throw away from one of the most popular ski resorts in the world, Whistler, B.C. I consider Whistler the winter equivalent of Hawaii in terms of its unparalleled beauty and mystical tourist perception. And like Hawaii, many people move to Whistler seeking fun and frollic.
The problem is, like most tourist centric towns, jobs are not very plentiful and the ones that are available, are menial labour. Hardly worth sleeping in jammed quarters with other fun-seekers saving their nickels and dimes just to experience good powder!
Or maybe it is worth it? At least Hawaii’s hot!
